The Department of Global Health has an overarching vision to enable global and national health equities by fostering interdisciplinary science and integrative education (https://stempel.fiu.edu/academics/public-health/disciplines/global-heal…). The department is also home to the Global Health Consortium (ghc.fiu.edu, a collaborative platform focused on coordinating regional scientific engagements in the Latin American region) and works closely with the new FIU Population Health Initiative (PHI, which aims to develop local community-based solutions to reduce health inequities in tackling key health challenges faced by multiethnic populations in South Florida).
The key scientific pillars of the department of global health include a) to investigate how climate and environment impact major non-communicable diseases (NCDs), in diverse global settings and population subgroups, b) to characterize how social, biological, and behavioral factors drive health inequities, and c) to apply global implementation research to bridge the global gap between etiological evidence and policy translation.
Key qualifications
As a part of key strategic hire, the Department of Global Health seeks to recruit a global health leader to serve as a tenure/tenure-earning faculty member, at associate or assistant professor levels, in Global Health or Global Implementation Science. We welcome applications from candidates with experience in implementation science research, nationally in the US or globally, in one or more of the following areas: (a) Global health, (b) Chronic NCDs, e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer prevention and control, (c) Child and adolescent health, (d) Communicable diseases, and (e) methodologic areas such as: Health care delivery or health services research. The selected candidate will have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to epidemiology, public health or implementation science. They will have a strong track record of collaboration and an excellent publication record and/or relevant grant funding; experience in conducting relevant interdisciplinary research in diverse settings; and a commitment to providing high-quality teaching and maintaining respectful working relationships.
Key responsibilities
The selected candidate will be given the opportunity to participate in ongoing research with multidisciplinary researchers and will be expected to develop and maintain an original, creative, and independent research program with evidence of high quality and productivity. This requires publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals and demonstrating the potential for successful submission and management of investigator-initiated grant proposals. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational mission of the College and the Department through teaching and advising Master and Doctoral students.
